When you're choosing memory care for a parent, mealtime is one of the things you worry about most. Will they eat enough? Will someone notice if they're struggling? Will the food actually taste like something they'd want to eat?

At BeeHive Homes of Lafayette, meals aren't prepared in a distant kitchen and wheeled in on trays. We cook home-cooked meals right here, in our home, and our caregivers serve our residents personally — the same way you'd serve a meal to your own family. With only 20 private suites in our community, we're small enough to know exactly how each resident likes their coffee, which foods bring a smile, and which ones they've quietly stopped eating.

Help at the Table, Not Just in the Kitchen

Many families come to us because a parent has started needing more help at mealtime than they realized — trouble managing utensils, forgetting to eat, or losing interest in food altogether. Our caregivers provide hands-on assistance with eating for residents who need it, sitting alongside them, offering encouragement, and making sure every resident gets the nourishment they need in a calm, unhurried setting.

Independence matters, too. As needs change, we introduce modified utensils and adaptive plates that make it easier for residents to keep feeding themselves for as long as possible — because holding onto that independence is good for their dignity and their spirit, not just their nutrition. We also use the Boston University red plate theory, serving meals on red plates for residents living with dementia — a simple, research-backed approach shown to improve focus and food intake at mealtime.

A Menu That Adjusts to Your Loved One

Every resident is different, and their meals should be too. We alter our menu to accommodate individual preferences, appetites, and needs — so if your mother doesn't care for a dish, or your father needs smaller, more frequent meals, we adjust. Food here is personal, not standardized.

Guided by the Professionals Who Know Your Parent Best

Behind every meal is a plan built on real medical guidance. We follow dietitian-approved and physician-recommended meal plans, and we accommodate modified diets and textured diets exactly as ordered by your loved one's physician — whether that means a low-sodium plan, a diabetic diet, or a pureed or mechanically softened texture for swallowing safety. You won't have to remind us; it's built into how we cook.

A Home, Not a Facility

With 20 private suites, we're able to give dining the kind of attention a large facility simply can't. Our residents eat together, in a familiar dining room, with caregivers who know their stories and their preferences — because at BeeHive Homes of Lafayette, dining isn't a service we provide. It's a meal we share.
