Eleven rooms beneath the red cliffs

Red rock borders the front walk of our stucco home on 1170 North, and from the air you can see the cliffs of Snow Canyon rising behind the neighborhood. BeeHive Homes of St. George at Snow Canyon has offered senior living here since 1995, in a house with just 11 resident rooms. A covered patio with a pergola, an umbrella table, and a grill sits out back for slow afternoons.

Washington County draws plenty of retirees, and many families in town have a parent who moved south for the sunshine. Others have lived in Dixie all their lives. When living alone starts to get harder, the questions come fast. A tour gives you answers in person and a feel for daily life in a small home.

Call (435) 525-2183 to schedule a tour.

Covered in the monthly arrangement

Every resident starts with these basics:

  • A private bedroom and bath. Bathrooms have handrails, and couples can ask about the larger suites with full baths.
  • Meals made from scratch. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus snacks, come out of our own kitchen.
  • Daily housekeeping and laundry. Rooms are tidied every day, and linens and clothes go through our laundry.
  • Caregivers on site day and night. The team covers every shift.

Utilities, phone, satellite TV, and Wi-Fi are included. Bring a favorite chair, quilt, or family photos so the room feels like your parent's own.

A dining table for everyone and a patio with shade

The dining room centers on a long wooden table with room for the whole household, plus guests on a holiday. The kitchen sits close by, with light wood cabinets and a wide counter where meals come together.

Bedrooms have big windows and space for a dresser and an armchair. Out back, the pergola-covered patio offers chairs, a table under an umbrella, and shade from the desert sun. In spring and fall the patio is pleasant most of the day, and in summer the pergola helps in the late afternoon. There is a salon on site for haircuts and sets, so residents can feel put together for a family visit.

Familiar faces in a small house

With only 11 rooms, residents soon know each other by name. Everyone can join card games, music, crafts, light exercise, and holiday parties. The senior activities page gives a fuller picture. Small groups also mean quieter residents are not lost in a crowd.

Family brings news and grandkids, and caregivers keep the house running. Still, a peer at the next chair offers a companionship of its own: someone who also remembers the old Dixie College days, or summer nights before air conditioning came to town. Ask the team how newcomers are drawn into the group.

Navajo tacos, scones, and peach season

Southern Utah tables have a few favorites. Let our kitchen know if your parent loves Navajo tacos, Utah scones with honey butter, fresh peaches in late summer, or a roast after church on Sunday. Mention any foods the doctor wants limited. Snacks are part of the day too, so name a favorite treat.

Care, a second home, and short stays

Our caregivers lend a hand with showers, getting dressed, grooming, safe movement around the house, and medication management. You can read about each one on the daily living page. You will find what the monthly rate includes on the assisted living page.

Snow Canyon opened in 1995, and a separate BeeHive memory care home followed across the street in 1997. Ask the staff to describe it when you visit.

When family caregivers need rest, respite care lets your parent stay short term, with no minimum number of days. It can also help everyone see how the home fits.

Cotton, a temple, and two pioneer brothers

St. George was founded in 1861 as part of the Cotton Mission, when 309 families were called south to grow cotton. The town was named for George A. Smith, and settlers from the South gave the area its nickname, Utah's Dixie. Work on the temple began in 1871, and it was dedicated on April 6, 1877. The St. George Tabernacle, started in 1863, was finished in 1875 and still stands downtown.

Snow Canyon State Park, just northwest of town, was created in 1959 and opened to the public in 1962. Its name honors Lorenzo and Erastus Snow, pioneer leaders, not the weather. The park's 7,400 acres hold red Navajo sandstone, old lava flows, and more than 38 miles of hiking trails, a popular place to walk in the cooler months.

If your father hiked Snow Canyon every spring, your mother remembers the temple grounds at Christmas, or your family has been in Dixie for generations, share that with us. Caregivers can use those details to start a good conversation.

Starting the conversation

Pick a cool morning, before the heat sets in. Ask your parent which routines matter most to them, then talk about what has become hard. Speak plainly but kindly. Families who split the year between St. George and another state can plan a tour around their next trip down. Some parents need time to warm to the idea, so plan for more than one talk. Bring a notebook to the tour, since small details are easy to forget later.

Relatives in Santa Clara, Ivins, Washington, Hurricane, or out of state can join the tour or a video call. Compare impressions afterward and decide together on next steps.

What to ask during your tour

  • Could we see a private room, a couples suite, and the patio?
  • What does a new resident's first day look like?
  • What determines the monthly rate? St. George pricing is private pay and set once a care assessment is done, so ask for the full list of what it covers.
  • How will the team share updates with us?
  • Could our parent stay for a meal with residents first?
