For over a decade, Eric and Catherine Sherrard have been dedicated to providing high-quality, family-centered senior care through BeeHive Homes. Their journey began with the opening of their first location in Goshen, blending Eric’s passion for hospitality with a deep commitment to providing exceptional care for Kentucky seniors. Alongside their sons, Robbie and Benjamin, the Sherrard family has worked tirelessly to create an environment where seniors feel valued, safe, and comfortable. Now, with the opening of their second location in Taylorsville, they are excited to extend their heartfelt approach to even more residents, offering the same exceptional care, home-cooked meals, and warm community spirit that make BeeHive Homes the next best place to home.

After more than 15 years in caregiving, I’ve seen a lot—but it never gets old. I became a caregiver for two reasons. First, I thought I wanted to be a nurse, and completing a certified nursing assistant program was a required step. Second, my grandparents lived a state away, and I didn’t have the close relationship I longed for with them. I figured I’d find seniors in my own community and give them the attention I wished I could give my grandparents.
I started at a nearby nursing home, and I quickly fell in love with the work.
I still remember Edith, who was in her mid-90s but got up every morning to do her hair, makeup, and put on jewelry. I helped her with her earrings and handed her her blush, and we spent those quiet morning moments getting her dolled up for the day. That was her routine, and I loved being part of it.
Ova was a hoot. She needed help in the restroom, and for some people, that might have been an embarrassing situation. But not for her—it was funny. We giggled every single time she stood up. Any woman who’s had children knows bladder control isn't what it used to be. But we’d laugh and laugh, and she’d tease, “I’m gonna get ya!” To this day, I think of her and smile.
And then there was Geneva. She’d wake up with third shift—around 5 a.m.—and by the time I arrived at 6, she’d be rolling down the hallway in her wheelchair saying “Good morning” to everyone she saw. I am not a morning person, but hearing her cheerful voice first thing always brightened my day.
Those ladies—those friends—from more than a decade ago still mean the world to me.
But with the joy of this job also comes the heartache. Edith was the first resident I ever lost. We had shared so many sweet mornings together, and I was there the day she left to be with her husband. She lived a full, beautiful life—and I will never forget her.
Over the years, I’ve lost many dear friends. That part never gets easier. But it has never once made me question why I do this. I LOVE this work. I love these people.
As my career progressed, I eventually became the Executive Director of a home. That role has been the greatest responsibility, challenge, motivator, and gift I’ve ever received. Being part of BeeHive Homes of Taylorsville since day one has been incredible. If something works—I helped make that happen. If something needs to change—I can change it.
Every day is brand new. Some are hard, some are easy, but every single one is a gift.
Whether it’s one of my “fun guys” needing help refocusing during a tough moment, or one of my gals itching for something to do, we’re on it. Coming up with engaging, meaningful activities is one of the hardest—and most fun—parts of the job. It’s a careful balance: nothing “childish,” but still fun and stimulating enough for a brain that has changed over time. When we find something that clicks, it’s pure magic.
This career has changed my life, and I can’t even begin to express the gratitude I feel to be a part of their lives.

At 91 years old, Hazel may have moved into BeeHive Assisted Living, but her heart never left Spencer County. A native of the area, Hazel spent her younger years living and working on Sweazy Farm, a place filled with cherished memories of simpler times and hard work. Over the years, she relocated to Mount Washington and Middletown, but the land she once called home never left her thoughts.
After moving into BeeHive Assisted Living, Hazel shared a deeply personal memory with the staff. With a wistful look, she said, “I’d give anything to see the top of that farm again.” Recognizing the deep connection Hazel had to Sweazy Farm, the BeeHive staff reached out to Wayne Sweazy, who had sold the property to the current BeeHive owners.
Wayne, who fondly remembers Hazel’s husband from his childhood, was eager to reconnect. He visited Hazel at BeeHive, where they reminisced about the past, sharing stories and laughter. For Hazel, the visit was a touching reunion with a piece of her history, bringing back fond memories of days spent working the land and raising her family.
Now, Hazel often seeks out the sunroom at BeeHive, where she can gaze at the farm in the distance. For her, it’s more than just a view—it’s a portal to her past, reminding her of the people and places that shaped her. Her return to Spencer County feels like coming full circle, proving that home is not just a place, but a collection of cherished memories and connections that last a lifetime.

"BEEHIVE has been a lifesaver for us and our mother. She needed to be in a safe, caring environment free from home hazards that hindered her mobility. With our sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren living just five minutes away, we knew she would always be close to family. Our whole family visited BeeHive and immediately knew it was the best option for her.
When we brought her to visit, she quickly picked her room, signed the papers, and put down a deposit. What a relief for our family—we no longer had to worry about her safety. She was BeeHive’s first resident and quickly became the beloved 'QUEEN BEE.' She is enjoying the attention and the kind, loving staff who have made this transition so smooth. It has been a true blessing."
